Cheryl & Jonathan’s Gorgeous Rainy Day Wedding
The forecast called for rain. In reality, we got absolute downpours. All day downpours. Soak you through your clothes downpours. We arrived early to the Phelps-Hatheway House to scout some locations should the rain not let up and we’re so impressed by the natural and historic beauty of the place. There were so many portrait locations! But all of them were just swimming in water.
You’d think from reading this it would have been a rough day. A hard day. A stressful day. But I can tell you it was anything but those things. Upon arriving at the adorable little Bed & Breakfast where Cheryl and her ladies were getting ready the atmosphere was everything you want a wedding day to be. There was excitement and laughs – an energy and anticipation for what was to come. To Cheryl it could not have mattered less that it was not just raining but practically monsooning on her wedding day. She was marrying Jonathan, and nothing could matter more. Jonathan was much the same – calm, ready and excited to marry the love of his life. These two were the perfect couple – not just for us to photograph – but also for each other.
The entire day was absolutely perfect. The rain did not let up and the family and wedding party processed to the ceremony with color-coordinated umbrellas. Everyone was all smiles. The ceremony was tucked into an outdoor/indoor location – covered enough to keep everyone dry, but open enough to still feel like an outdoor ceremony. Personalized readings by both mothers and heartfelt personal vows made it something special.
We were lucky enough to have a lovely, large, covered porch to shoot on for formal portraits – it had this incredible red floor and the lighting could not have been more gorgeous! After, when we suggested to Cheryl and Jonathan that we take it outdoors for some fun umbrella shots they were more than game. They laughed and smiled and kissed – and made for the most stunning photos.
The reception was one big party with so many personal DIY details. We felt so at home and so welcome with this group. The couple and their closest friends and family danced the night away, just as the rain began to let up.
Cheryl and Jonathan, thank you for having us as part of your day – we had the best time and are so excited for you to see your photos! Congratulations, you two!
